  • Camp Burton: a camp full of priceless memories that I looked up for a long time without knowing where to begin. I want to start with myself first. My name is Duygu, shortly you can call me “Sparkle”. I was an international staff member from Turkey who was working as a host at the camp in the summer of 2022. I made a lot of amazing friendships. It makes me very emotional to still be in contact with almost everyone. We enjoyed an amazing two months together as a large family that included both local and international staff. We were always made to feel welcome by camp staff, and I still refer to it as my second home. I wish I could go back in time to those times. I miss everyone deeply.

  • Camp Burton will forever hold a place in my heart! I had always wanted to experience camp life from a very young age and Camp Burton was the perfect place. I worked as a counselor and host in summer of 2022, traveling from the UK, and can happily say I met friends for life. From the minute I arrived to the minute I left, the sense of community was beautiful. Every single person at camp was incredibly welcoming and supportive. I learned so many new skills as well as learning so much about myself. I cannot thank them enough for the experience of a lifetime!

Joanna, “Tater Scot”, Scotland

  • Starting my camp journey in 2017 remains one of the best decisions I have ever made. Camp Burton is, at its core, a place of spiritual transformation and renewal… but it does so much more than that. It changed my life! It really was the adventure of a lifetime. Being part of the camp family extends further than the camp boundary, island, country, and continent! Hosting camp family over in Scotland has been such a joy and is a testament to the power of connection camp can build. Over the years, living & working at camp taught me so much about other cultures and I learned so much about myself too. Confidence and campfires are just two things I managed to build over the years thanks to summers on Vashon! More than anything, I learned about the beauty and joy of camp and the connection it offers to everyone fortunate enough to experience a summer at Camp Burton.

  • I was very appreciative to work with an experienced crew that welcomed me onto the team with genuine appreciation and camaraderie, even on the first day. Anytime I had questions, everyone was so willing to help me figure it out, and that’s if they didn't already know the answer. It also meant a lot to me to have senior staff who understood and were compassionate when it came to work-life balance.

Chacha , “Slide”, Florida

  • I loved being able to meet new people in the staff, as well as getting to help create cool and enriching memories for the campers. The environment is beautiful and getting to camp out and run around with the kids is so much fun. I learned a lot about helping the campers open up about themselves and learn to create friendships with others.

  • Best summer ever! I don’t think anything will ever top this in my life. Anytime I think of the U.S., it’s always Camp Burton that comes to mind. Hopefully one day, I’ll be back. Thank you to everyone for making camp awesome!

  • At fifteen, I quit my job at an ice cream shop to start working at Camp Burton. Working there is the midst of my developmental years taught me much more than how to cook, clean, and run events. It taught me how to use my values as motivation to strive for what I want, and to keep them clear and present in every action. The biggest value I came into through working at Camp Burton was community. The team is one of my motivators for what I want to do with my life. Having community means having a safe space where you are able to grow and advance.
